Obituary

Aline Smith Brooks Stone slipped peacefully away from us on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at her home in Mullins. She was born in Marion County on August 8, 1942, the daughter of the late Henry Albert Smith and the late Edith Martin Smith.

Aline was a woman of great strength and quiet dignity who valued her family and her faith. In her earlier years, she worked at Anderson Brothers Bank and later with Smith-Rogers Oil Company. She was a lifetime member of Macedonia Methodist Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir and was involved in many other facets of the church through the years. Aline was first married to the late David Stokes Brooks, III.  After his passing, she married her high school sweetheart the late Dr. H. David Stone. They blended their families (four sons) together and freely lavished them with love, care, and wisdom that will lead them the rest of their lives. She especially enjoyed traveling with David and spending time at their beach home. They enjoyed being outside, working in the yard and tending to their flowers. Her home and its surroundings brought her great peace and joy. Her grandchildren are immeasurably grateful for the precious memories and cherished moments they shared with her. She was a Godly influence in their life and shared with them the importance of music as a ministry, which is evidenced by their attendance at church and their participation in the church choir.

In addition to her parents, Aline was predeceased by her first husband, David Stokes Brooks, III, her second husband, Dr. H. David Stone; and a sister that died in infancy, Peggy Ann Smith.

She is survived by the four sons, Dave (Mary Ann) Brooks, Smith (Candyce) Brooks, Dr. David (Anne) Stone, Jr, and Michael (Kim) Stone; eleven grandchildren, Lauren (Chad) Farlow, Savannah (Hunter) Alford, Stokes (Jena Hanna) Brooks, Callie Brooks, H.D. III, Daniel, Anna Caroline, William, Alex and Ashley Stone, and Tanner Jordan; two great-grandchildren, Nash and Navy Alford and one Farlow great-grandchild on the way; two bonus great-grandchildren, Ava and William Farlow, and sister-in-law, Rosella Stone (Johnny) Croft.

A celebration of her life and love will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, in the sanctuary of Macedonia Methodist Church with Reverend Brian Preveaux officiating. Interment will follow at Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Dave and Mary Ann Brooks.

Friends wishing to honor Aline are invited to make a donation in her memory to Macedonia Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street, Mullins, South Carolina 29574.
