Hybert Neauzon Strickland Jr. "Bert", 71, of the Pleasant View community, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Carolinas Hospital System in Marion. He was born in Mullins, the son of the late Neauzon Strickland and Brittie Blanton Strickland.
Bert spent forty-five years as Director of the Marion County Department of Social Services. He was a Nascar enthusiast and enjoyed attending the races. A farmer at heart, Bert was well-known for the blueberries that he grew. He was very active in the Rotary Club of Mullins, having served as chairman of the annual fish fry for many years. A friend to all, he especially loved spending time with his friends riding motorcycles or chatting over breakfast at Round Man's Store. His greatest joy, however, came from his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving Bert is his mother, Brittie Blanton Strickland; his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Strickland; a son, Hybert Neauzon Strickland III; a daughter, Brandie (Pete) Carlucci, all of Nichols; two sisters, Joyce (Gene) Elliott of Loris and Kay (Clayton) Small of Nichols; five grandchildren, Brent, Sam, Carolina, Ransome, and Allie; his special Mac and Maggie, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 27, 2015 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28th at Pleasant View Baptist Church with burial to follow at Blanton Cemetery.
