Bruce Walters,
Jr.
May 13, 1959 — Dec 23, 2025
Nichols
Bruce Calverley Walters, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at his residence in Nichols. He was born on May 13, 1959, in Jamestown, New York, a son of the late Nancy Ploetz Walters and the late Bruce C. Walters, Sr.
Bruce grew up in Ashville, New York, where his strong work ethic and desire to help others became evident at an early age. As a young teenager, he began mowing his grandparents' lawn at their home on Chautauqua Lake. Word quickly spread among neighbors, and before long, Bruce had built his own lawn-mowing business. Never one to shy away from hard work or ingenuity, he constructed a trailer to tow behind the family's lawn tractor and could often be seen driving from home to home along the lake, caring for lawns with pride and determination.
Bruce's passion for working with his hands also began early in life. He spent countless hours in the family garage alongside his father, helping work on race cars and learning mechanical skills that would shape his future. During the summers, he worked at his grandfather's business, Electric Motor Services in Jamestown, New York, where he discovered his lifelong love for machining and tool and die work.
In December of 1975, Bruce moved with his family to Mullins, South Carolina, a place he would proudly call home for the next fifty years. He graduated from Mullins High School in 1977. Shortly after graduation, Bruce began his career with AVM, where he worked faithfully for more than 42 years. Starting as an apprentice machinist and tool and die maker, he dedicated his entire professional life to the company, working in maintenance, the machine shop, and the screw machine department. His skill, reliability, and strong work ethic earned the respect of coworkers and supervisors alike. Bruce eventually settled in Nichols, where he was a flood survivor and a much loved supportive neighbor. Bruce was a member of Mullins Presbyterian Church where he was actively involved in his Sunday School Class and the Men of Mullins Prayer Breakfast.
Before moving south, Bruce also enjoyed skiing and snowmobiling, hobbies that reflected his adventurous spirit and love for hands-on activity.
Bruce is survived by two sisters, Nealey Pearson of Jamestown, New York and Denise Bidwell (Tom) of Delaware, Ohio, as well as one niece and three nephews.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in the sanctuary of Mullins Presbyterian Church, officiated by Reverend Jason Brewer. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will follow at Red Hill Memorial Gardens.
If you would like to remember Bruce, donations may be made in his memory to Mission Mullins, c/o Mullins Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 671, Mullins, South Carolina 29574, a mission that was very dear to him.
Bruce will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his willingness to help others, and the pride he took in everything he did. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, both personally and professionally.
