Carlyle
Stroud
Aug 25, 1945 — May 31, 2026
Nichols
Carlyle Stroud, 80, of Nichols, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born in Horry County on August 25, 1945, the son of the late Robert Bruce Stroud, Sr. and the late Irene Jernigan Stroud.
Carlyle had a deep appreciation for nature and the simple joys of life. One of his true happy places was out in the chicken coop. Whether he was carefully tending the eggs, or fussing over the newest biddies, he was never happier than when he was surrounded by his feathered friends.
Carlyle brought that same nurturing spirit to his family whom he adored. He, along with his wife, Joyce, delighted in watching their family grow. When they would visit, he was always ready with a comforting word, a warm embrace, or a smile. Sharing a deep bond with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were the ultimate blessing for him.
He never went anywhere without his cowboy hat and well-worn pair of boots. They were an essential part of dress for him. Carlyle believed in hard work and worked many years with Wellman Industries. He had a passion for music and loved to sing and play the guitar. He also enjoyed gardening and was quite the prankster. He attended Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worshipping with his church family until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
In addition to his parents, Carlyle was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Stroud, Jr. and Donald Wayne Stroud, and a sister, Corine Stroud Small.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce Bowen Stroud, a son, Bobby Joe Stroud and his wife, Geri; his daughter, Angie Stroud Goodyear and her husband, Carl; five grandchildren, David Stroud (Kelby), Christian Stroud (Gabby), Brittany Goodyear, Stephen Goodyear, and Dustin Goodyear (Cameron), three great-grandchildren, Kaiden Atkinson, Landon Atkinson, and Wrenley Stroud, and a sister, Florine Stroud Dimmery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4th in the chapel of the funeral home with Reverend Mack Marsh officiating. Interment will follow at Devotion Gardens.
If you would like to remember Carlyle, the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church, 214 Drew Road, Mullins, South Carolina 29574.
