Obituary

Janet Claire Sellers, 78, of Mullins passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 25, 2022 with her family by her side. She was born in Marion, South Carolina on May 27, 1944, the daughter of the late Starr C. Shelley and the late Emily Braswell Shelley.

During Claire's high school years, she enjoyed playing basketball and playing the piano. She was a very talented pianist and participated in many state competitions. In 2017, Claire lost her only daughter following a sudden illness. It was during this time that Claire's Christian faith and dedication helped her as she dealt with her loss. Claire loved all animals, and in keeping with this love, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the local animal shelter. Claire married her beloved husband, Wallace in 1962. They were just a few short months of celebrating sixty wonderful years together. They enjoyed dancing especially shagging and entertaining friends at their beautiful home on the river. They spent over twenty years working side by side at Latta IGA. Claire was happiest when she was sitting on her deck enjoying life on the river.

In addition to her parents, Claire was predeceased by her daughter, Susan Sellers Medlin, a sister, Marcia Johnson, and a brother, Raymond Shelley.

She is survived by the love of her life, Wallace D. Sellers, III; a son, Duncan Sellers and his wife, Penny of Latta; her son-in-law, Michael Medlin of Latta; her sister-in-law, Pat Causey and her husband, Carlis of Dillon; nine grandchildren, Kristin Brown (Dylan), Kayla Morrill (Kody). Joseph Sellers, Samuel Sellers (Marlayna), Matthew Sellers, Hannah Medlin, Chase Lane, Kai-Lei Chen, and Charleigh Sellers, eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, a special friend and caregiver, Tyrone Ford; her beloved dog, Tipper, and her Fork Retch family.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. A service to celebrate Claire's life will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the chapel of the funeral home.

If you would like to remember Claire, donations may be made in her memory to the Marion County Animal Shelter, 123 Dog and Cat Court, Mullins, South Carolina 29574.

The family would like to thank Brooke Brown, Joe McCall and Dr. Jimmy Carroll with Patriot Hospice for the love and care that was shown to Claire and the entire family during her illness.
