Obituary

Doris Willoughby Elliott, 87, widow of Harold Elliott, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Loris Rehab and Nursing Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Marion County on March 9, 1936, the daughter of the late Oscar Joseph Willoughby and the late Alma Blackmon Willoughby.

Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who devoted her life to God and her family. She was also a farmer's wife who supported her late husband whether it was working in the fields, preparing meals, or taking care of the children. Life on the farm was hard work, but she loved the green fields of the Elliott Farm. She knew that in the summer the farm came first, but she always looked forward to the fall and taking a trip to the mountains to see the changing of the leaves. Her beloved Harold passed away in 2015, but she relied on the strength and love of her family to persevere for many years after. Her family finds strength in knowing that today she is reunited with him and a multitude of other family members and friends.

Doris was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and the Opal Fax Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed the Happy Hearts group and participating in the outreach ministry with her friends.

In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty-nine years, Harold Elliott, three brothers, Sherwood, Lester, and Jimmy Willoughby, half-brothers, Joseph and John Willoughby, sisters, Marilyn Lee, Earlene Gerald, and Louteal Sarvis, and half-sisters, Virgie Floyd and Ethel Stevens.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin Elliott and his wife, Joni and Chris Elliott and his wife, Denise, both of Nichols; a daughter, Cissy Alexander and her husband, Gregory of Hartsville; six grandchildren, Brad Elliott (Amber), Andrew Elliott (Whitney), Casey Elliott (Boone), Krysten Webster (William), Ella Alexander, and Anna Alexander, seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Martin of Charleston; two sisters-in-law, Sally Lou Willoughby and Betty Willoughby of Nichols, and a special niece and nephew, Tammy and Hal Sarvis, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Nichols with Reverend Stephen Vipperman and Reverend Dale Willoughby officiating. A committal service will follow at Elliott Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Elliott Cemetery Fund, c/o Terry Wayne Elliott, 151 Leaning Branch Loop, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.
