Obituary

Dorothy L. Chestnut, 65, of Galivants Ferry entered into her eternal rest on Monday, March 1, 2021.  Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy witnessed the Face of God and the Love of Her Lord and Savior.  The daughter of the late Marvin B. Chestnut, Sr and Agnes Johnson Chestnut, Dorothy was born on August 26, 1955 in Marion County. One of eight children, she enjoyed the love and fellowship of a close-knit family.

This remarkable woman was special in every respect.  She was an avid fan of soap operas and the old television programming. She could be found in front of the television every waking moment.  Early each morning, she found pleasure in watching her favorite Lifetime Movies.  At noon, she tuned into the news to catch the latest happenings in the Pee Dee and Nation.  Dorothy enjoyed Gunsmoke and was truly fond of Andy Griffin and all the characters of the late afternoon programming.   Enjoyment and entertainment were offered by way of television for Dorothy.

She loved to sing and could be heard vocalizing a variety of selections.  Old Country Music was one of her absolute favorites and no artist was exempt from Dorothy's version of their latest hits.  She is fondly remembered for her uncanny ability to talk with the very best.  Not being shy to address any subject or individual, Dorothy expressed herself freely.  It has been noted by her close family members that she would even argue with the family dog.  Pets had a very special place in her heart and her beloved cat was her absolute favorite.

Dorothy is survived by her mother, Agnes Chestnut of the home and brothers, Marvin Chestnut Jr. of Galivants Ferry, Alvie Chestnut (Carol) of Conway and Roger Chestnut (Laura) also of Galivants Ferry.  Surviving sisters include Annie Chestnut of Galivants Ferry, Jeanette Accardo (Michael) of Bush, Louisiana and Martha Chestnut of Galivants Ferry.  Also left to cherish her memory is her sister-in-law, Page Chestnut of Darlington as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her father, Dorothy was preceded in death by her bothers, Carl Chestnut and Glenn Chestnut.

A graveside service to commemorate her life will be held on Saturday, March 6 th at 2:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church Cemetery in Galivants Ferry with the Reverend Bill Thompson officiating. It is respectfully requested that those in attendance please practice proper social distancing and protocol.  The wearing of masks is highly encouraged and recommended.  A kind word and heartfelt prayer would mean much more than a handshake or hug.

For those who wish to remember Dorothy, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Gethsemane Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4461 Nichols Highway, Galivants Ferry, South Carolina 29544.

Her dear sister Annie summed it up best, "Although Dorothy is Gone...She Will Never Be Forgotten".
