Nichols
Jerry Douglas "Doug" Stroud, 59, of Nichols passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at McLeod Loris Hospital following an illness from a recent cancer diagnosis. He was born in Horry County on October 22, 1963, the son of the late Jerry Douglas Stroud, Sr. and the late Judith H. Zachary Stroud Webster.
Doug was a graduate of Green Sea Floyds High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Returning to Nichols, he began working the family farm along with his father. With his love and knowledge of the land, he later joined Helena Chemical Company, where he assisted local farmers in improving agricultural productivity. His most recent work was with Dixie Turf in the landscaping industry. A big history buff, Doug enjoyed reading and learning about events of the past. He will be greatly missed, especially his sense of humor and quick wit.
In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by aunts, Sara Catherine Stroud Bryant and Shelby Stroud Shelley.
He is survived by his sons, Keaton Z. Stroud and Patrick Stroud, of Lake View; brother, Jonathan Z. Stroud and his wife, Angie; sisters, Claudia Allison Clennon and her husband, Rod and Catherine Leigh Pritchard and her husband, Jimmy, all of Greenville; niece and nephews, Harrison and Eden Pritchard and Carson and Jason Stroud; an aunt, Faye Wilson of Nichols; Faye's children, Kelly and Jill Wilson; and her grandchildren, Sephen, Madison and Katie Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023 in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home in Mullins with Reverend Dale Willoughby officiating. A committal service will follow at Cedar Creek Stroud Cemetery in Nichols. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
