Obituary

Dudley Teddy Shofner, 86, of Mullins, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at MUSC Health Mullins Nursing Center. He was born on December 2, 1939, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, to the late Gordon Clayton Shofner and Jennie Alice Coleman Shofner.

He spent his younger years on the family farm in Shelbyville with his parents, paternal grandparents and three siblings. His family later relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where Dudley graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School. It was also in Raleigh that he met Betty Campbell, the love of his life, through mutual friends. They married on December 10, 1958, and shared 49 years together.

After welcoming their two children, Wanda and Dudley, the family made their home in Mullins, where Dudley began working with Marvel Lighting Company. He was a dedicated employee for over 30 years, received numerous awards and was eventually promoted to plant supervisor.

Dudley took great pride in caring for his family and home and was often seen working in his yard or with Windex and paper towels in hand. He loved visiting family in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia, but his favorite place was home. He enjoyed the simple things in life: reading the newspaper, watching the nightly news and having a good meal at Dry Dock, where he was always welcomed by friends. He was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Duke basketball.

Dudley loved God and attended worship services at North Mullins Baptist Church. He was a good man with a kind heart and will be forever loved and missed. While his earthly work is complete, his family takes comfort in knowing he has been welcomed home and reunited with Betty, his parents, grandparents, brothers and other loved ones who went before him.

In addition to his parents, Dudley was predeceased by his wife, Betty Campbell Shofner, and two brothers, Merle Sheridan Shofner and John Gordon Shofner.

He is survived by his loving children, Wanda Shofner Enkema of Columbia and Dudley Campbell Shofner of Conway; two grandchildren, Jamie Bowman Muldrow and her husband, Trent, of Lexington, and Justin West Shofner of Conway; a great-grandchild, Claire Campbell Muldrow; a sister, Mabel Shofner Davis, and her husband, Larry, of Dallas, Texas; a special niece, Jennie Davis West, and her son, Luke, of Asheville, North Carolina; a special nephew, Jeremiah Reed Davis, of Dallas; and numerous other beloved nieces and nephews.

A service of celebration and remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2026, in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home in Mullins, with Reverend Art Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
