Elise Hammond Caughman, 96, a woman of unwavering faith and grace, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Loris Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born in Horry County on March 22, 1929, the daughter of the late Halum French Hammond and the late Alma Anderson Hammond.

Mrs. Elise was a beloved member of the Spring Branch Community of Nichols, where she spent most of her life. She received her BS degree in Business at Winthrop College and later earned her master's degree from the University of South Carolina. Although Mrs. Elise never had any children of her own, she counted the many students she taught as hers. She dedicated thirty-three years educating and inspiring students in the Horry and Marion County School Districts with her patience and genuine love for teaching and learning. She was beloved by all those whose life she touched.

A godly woman, Mrs. Elise had a servant's heart and never missed an opportunity to worship and share her love for the Lord. Faith, prayer, and attending Spring Branch Baptist Church were a powerful part of her life. She had fifty years of perfect attendance at her church, where she served others humbly and graciously.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Elise was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Caughman, a brother, Anderson Hammond, and a nephew, Robin Dean Hammond.

She is survived by a nephew, Gene Anderson Hammond (Phyllis); a great-niece, Tori Lynne Hammond; great-nephews, Jamie Hammond and William Dean Hammond,; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Spring Branch Baptist Church in Nichols with Reverend Jay Black officiating.
