Ellen Small Buffkin, 90, of Nichols passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Southland Health Care Center in Florence. She was born in Horry County, the daughter of the late Jacob Foster and Millie Jane Small. A woman of great faith, Mrs. Buffkin enjoyed reading and studying her Bible. She loved her church and her church family at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Family was very important to her, and she could often be found at church with a pew full of her family whom she loved spending time with and cooking for on Sundays.

Mrs. Buffkin was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by her beloved husband, Roscoe P. Buffkin, a son, Calvin Carroll Buffkin, eleven siblings, Proctor, Laria, Lori, Rebeckha, Cardia, Lola, Ellis, Manning, Clayton, Berkley and Codia Small, and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Buffkin and James Buffkin.

She is survived by her son, Freddie (Sara) Buffkin of Mullins; a sister, Eula Mae Strickland of Nichols; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Buffkin of Nichols; seven grandchildren, Angela, Debra, Draper, and Kristen Buffkin, all of Nichols, Johnny (Paula) Buffkin and Tammy Buffkin (Timothy) Miller of Mullins, and Frederick "Bo" (Christy) Buffkin of Marion; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017 in the sanctuary of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and at other times at 742 Nichols Highway North (next to Shelley's lake). Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in the sanctuary with Reverend Benji Hutson and Reverend Maxie Hardee officiating and directed by Meares Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
