Obituary

Emerson Daniel Sawyer, 76, of Mullins passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born in Mullins on April 22, 1945, the son of the late Lanneau M. Sawyer and the late Mary Elizabeth Herring Sawyer.

Emerson enjoyed fishing, cooking, and working in his garden and would cook much of what he caught and grew in his garden. He spent many years as the owner and operator of Sawyer's Well Drilling. It was following this that he began to put his knowledge of gardening into practice with the opening of Sawyer's Produce, first at the roadside stand and later at the Exxon Station in North Mullins. His love of people and cooking led him to his most recent adventure, where he and his wife owned and operated, Southern Exposure. Through the years, they provided the community with delicious home cooking and sandwiches. He attended Fork Baptist Church until his health declined. In recent years, Emerson suffered various health trials, but through it all he kept a positive attitude and never lost his love for his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Emerson was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Sawyer.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Eveleigh Tindal Sawyer; two daughters, Lori Wagers (GT) of Little River and Tanya Russ (Billy) of Mullins; a brother, Franklin Sawyer of Lake View; three sisters, Ruby Newell of Fork, Irene Fink of Mullins, and Janet Nicholson (Horace) of Mullins; five grandchildren, Sierra, Shane, Maddison, Claire, and Michael; and one great-grandchild, Emerson Ryder Russ.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. A graveside service will be held on Friday morning, July 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., at McMillan Cemetery in Mullins with Reverend Jason Brewer officiating.

If you would like to remember Emerson, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research, 401 East Cheves Street, Florence, South Carolina 29506. Your volunteering to become a blood donor would also be a worthy tribute to Emerson, as he benefitted from this tremendous cause.
