Eugene Elliott Gainey, Jr., 42, of Florence and formerly of Mullins passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. He was born in Mullins on December 28, 1979, the son of the late Eugene Elliott Gainey, Sr. and Judy Jones Williams.

Gene was a graduate of Mullins High School and worked with Utility Partners of America replacing gas meters. A history buff, he enjoyed learning about things of the past whether it was through reading, watching programs on television, or visiting places. He believed that life should be lived to the fullest, and he did just that. His favorite hobby was woodworking which he found to be fulfilling, as he was able to create things. Gene was a loving and faithful son, husband, brother, and father to his four-legged child.

Gene was predeceased by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Shantinique "Shi" Gainey; his mother, Judy Jones Williams; a sister, Crissy Gainey, all of Florence; an aunt and uncle, Frank and Joann Jones of Mullins; numerous cousins, and his best friend who was like a brother, Jerome (Tiffany) and nephew, Joiah.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
