Obituary

Gloria Ann Barfield Hill, 79, of Mullins passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Nichols on July 18, 1940, the daughter of the late Alton H. Barfield and Edna Hayes Barfield.

Gloria was one of the gentlest women that you could ever meet. She was patient and soft spoken and used those special qualities to serve her customers at Davis National Bank and later at Anderson Brothers Bank. She was married to her husband, Bob, for 63 years, and she was the light of his life. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she passed this on to her children, teaching and guiding them how to be a good mother and a grandmother. She was affectionately known as Granna by her grandchildren whom she adored and who adored her. Gloria was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class which she enjoyed attending prior to her declining health.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Jean Hill Collins, three brothers, Billy, Burnette, and Hubert Barfield, a sister, Hilda Elliott and a grandson, Robbie Collins.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; three sons, Joey Hill of Manning, Greg Hill (Edy) of Mt. Pleasant, and Donnie Hill (Susie) of Mullins; four daughters, Virginia Mae Altman of Lexington, Rhonda Kay McColl (Doug), Sharon Elvington (Harold) both of Mullins; and Sheila Purvell of Florida; three sisters, Patricia Miller of Nichols, Gail Hooks of Sumter, Kay Floyd (Harlan) of Loris, a special sister-in-law, Libby Barfield; grandchildren, Gregory Hill (Casey), Wesley McColl (Krista), Matt McColl(Ryn), Madison and Bailee Elvington, David Wannamaker (Nancy), Timothy Altman (Lisa), Ginger Jordan (David), Chris Collins and Kari Purvell; great-grandchildren, Lacey, Lilah Grace, and Laura Hill, Maggie McColl, Tori, David, and Nola Wannamaker, David Paul, Patrick and Hollis Jordan and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2019 in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home with Reverend Robbie Baxley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. The family will lay Gloria to rest in a private committal service at McMillan Cemetery.
