Gordon Hartsell Collins, 81, husband of Jessie Thomas Collins, of Florence and formerly of Nichols, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center. He was born in Horry County on March 28, 1940, the son of the late Roy W. Collins and the late Sadie Hardwick Collins.

Gordon enjoyed working with his hands and spent many years working as a machine mechanic at Precision Southeast. Anyone who knew Gordon was touched by his kindness and mild temperament. He was always willing to do for others before himself. He enjoyed being outdoors especially fishing and riding on their golf cart. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races and was an avid Gamecock fan. Gordon was a member of Christian Faith Baptist Church. His greatest love was for his family, especially his beloved wife, Jessie, with whom he celebrated sixty years of marriage last week.

In addition to his parents, Gordon was predeceased by a special nephew, Bryan Collins, a brother-in-law, Joseph Thomas, sisters-in-law, Eula Jean Best, Libby Jordan, Barbara Collins, and Mary Collins and his beloved dog, Missie.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie; a son, Michael Collins, and his wife, Julie of Florence; two brothers, E.B. Collins and Lanneau Collins (Miriam) both of Aynor; a sister, Grace Wilson of Florence; brothers-in-law, Paul Thomas (Debbie) of Mullins and Andy Thomas (Marie) of Effingham; two grandchildren, Seth Michael Collins and Skylar Brent Collins (Lexus); one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021 in the sanctuary of Christian Faith Baptist Church in Mullins. Funeral services will follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the sanctuary of the church. Interment will be at Watson Cemetery in the Zion Community.
