Mattie Irene Hewitt, 70, of Mullins, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2020 at MUSC Health Marion Medical Center. She was born in Mullins, South Carolina on April 25, 1950, the daughter of the late Arthur Fowler and the late Lula Edna Shelley Fowler. Irene enjoyed shopping and attended Rains Freewill Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Her greatest joy came from her children and especially her beloved son and caregiver, Wayne.

In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her husband, Larry Hewitt.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence D. "Wayne" Hewitt of Mullins; a daughter, Kimberly Hewitt Carroll (Kirk) of Coats, North Carolina; a sister, Jane Fowler Williamson (Dock) of Mullins; five grandchildren, Franki Lynn Pate-Adams (Michael), Emily Pate, Kirstyn Champion, Aubreigh Carroll, and Olivia Carroll, and three great-grandchildren, Carson Adams, Scarlette Skipper and Leah Skipper.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols. The family will receive friends at Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church following the service.
