Janet
Ayers
Jul 24, 1922 — Mar 10, 2018
Darlington
Janet Floyd Ayers, 95, of Darlington passed away peacefully Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Bethea Healthcare. She was born in Lake City, the daughter of the late Carl D. and Lillie Thigpen Floyd.
During WWII, Janet was a stenographer at the Customs House in Charleston. In later years, she did secretarial work at The Farmers & Merchants Bank in Walterboro and at the SC Land Resources Commission in Columbia. She enjoyed the detailed skills needed for working in an office and excelled in this area. Her favorite pastimes included cooking, sewing, handwork such as crocheting and tatting, crossword puzzles and writing letters. She loved her family and her church. She said the greatest influence in her life was her faith in God. After retiring she and her husband, Tommy, moved to The Bethea Baptist Retirement Community. She took great pride in remembering the names of most of the residents, nurses and employees there. She was a detail person!
Janet was predeceased in addition to her parents, by her beloved husband of 51 years, Tommy Emerson Ayers; a brother, Benjamin Floyd, and a sister, Elise F. Ward.
She is survived by two daughters, Myra A. (Bill) Thompson of Hurricane, Utah and Jane A. (Ted) Robertson of Lawrenceville, Georgia; a brother, Gerald D. Floyd of Columbia; two sisters, Marjorie (Ed) Gohlich of Dewey, AZ and Helen (Davis) Nettles of Moncks Corner; five grandchildren, Chase Ferguson, Ashley Ferguson, Jennifer Simcox, Matthew Thompson, and Virginia Elmore; and eleven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at New Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nichols. A memorial service will be held later that afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Bethea Baptist Church in Darlington. Janet is in the care of Meares Funeral Home of Mullins.
If you would like to remember Janet, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to Bethea Baptist Church, 157 Home Avenue, Darlington, South Carolina 29532.
