Obituary

James Randolph "Jimmy" Hayes, 87, of Hendersonville, North Carolina and formerly of Nichols, SC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, with his son by his side. He was born in Dillon County, SC on October 29, 1937, the son of the late Leon Garrett Hayes and Doris Traywick Hayes.

Jimmy worked with Carolina Power and Light Company for twenty-seven years while also working on the family farm. Jimmy's life mission was to win souls for Christ and to share God's love. Prior to his retirement, he served at various churches throughout the years, providing spiritual leadership and service to the church. He took a personal interest in people, taking time to mentor, witness, counsel, and pray with them. His love for God included his delight in all of God's creation, especially the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Jimmy was a devoted husband to his late wife, Betty Jean Price Hayes, whom he was married to for almost fifty years, and whom he adored and missed greatly. He was reunited with her on the anniversary of her passing, and together they now have found happiness in God's presence. Jimmy also adored spending time with his family and friends. He would be found surrounded by his family as he told them stories about growing up and aging throughout the years. He truly fought the good fight and has gone to receive his reward.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by a brother, Garrett Hayes and a sister, Sue Hayes McLaurin.

He is survived by his son, Joe Hayes and his wife, Sabrina of Hendersonville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Victoria Hayes Ward (Jonathan), Joseph Hayes, Rebecca Hayes, and Christian Hannah; great-grandchildren, Holly Crisp, June Crisp, D.J. Ward, and Leonardo Ward; nieces and nephews, Chaddie Hayes (Cammie), Brandy Hayes Arthur, Trey McLaurin and Missy McLaurin Cessna; close friends who were like family, Benny (Taylor) Williams, Thomas Vaughn, and Adam (Alyana) Williams; neighbors who were like a brother and sister, Ronnie and Joy Rhodes; sister-in-law, Shelby Hayes, as well as many other family members and friends.

There will be a celebration of his life at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Barker Heights Baptist Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Additionally, there will be a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025, in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home of Mullins. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Jones-Nichols Cemetery in Nichols.
