J.M.
Johnson
Mar 17, 1937 — Sep 24, 2024
Mullins
"Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you." John 16:22
James Mishop "J.M." Johnson, 87, of Mullins passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at McLeod Health in Dillon. He was born in Horry County on March 17, 1937, the son of the late Mishop Johnson and the late Effie Squires Johnson.
J.M. was a gentle and kind man whose life centered around his faith and his family. He married Eva, the love of his life on February 13, 1955, almost seventy years ago. Their marriage was based on mutual support and a deep love for each other. They were blessed with a loving son and were thrilled as they watched their family grow as grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born. J.M. loved spending time with them and making memories that they will always cherish. He enjoyed following them in all their sports and activities and picking them up from school every day. His family could always rely on him for encouragement, guidance, and lots of hugs.
J.M. enjoyed cutting grass, tinkering on his truck, and watching his Gamecocks play. Even though he never had any formal training, he was very mechanically inclined and could often be found fixing things around the house. J.M. spent many years working as a purchasing supervisor at SOPAKCO. He was a faithful member of Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church, where he and Eva were recently honored as being the oldest father and oldest mother in the church. He also served as an usher there. J.M.'s personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered, and his passing will be deeply felt by everyone who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, J.M. was predeceased by a brother, Cecil Johnson, a half-brother, Junior Skipper, and three sisters, Bertha Mae Taylor, Linda Faye Squires, and Mildred Turner.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eva Floyd Johnson; his son, Kenny Johnson (Connie); four grandchildren, Heather Ivey (Scottie), Corey Johnson (Erin), Courtney Jackson (Jeremy), and Madison Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Tori Piper, Fallon, Crew, and Eva Jade; a brother, Billy Johnson (Anndora), and a special nephew, Ronald Taylor (Gloria).
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, September 26, 2024, at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 29th in the sanctuary of Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Thad Jacobs officiating.
