Obituary

Josie Kate "Jody" Blume, 76, of Mullins passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina following a months long battle with cancer. She was born in Rowland, North Carolina on February 5, 1948, the daughter of the late John Watson Wallace and the late Mary Lynn Reeves Wallace.

Jody touched many lives in a positive way. This was so beneficial in her professional career dealing with families. Over the last couple of years, she got to be "Grams" to her grandson, Harry, which besides being a wife and mother, was the greatest joy in her life. She had a fifty-year career in community outreach through her work with the Marion County Department of Social Services and Gentiva Hospice Care. She was a dedicated Christian and had previously been a Sunday School teacher at Mullins First Baptist Church, where she helped children grow their faith in God. She was a devoted member of the Eastern Star organization and spent time in multiple leadership positions within the organization. Jody was an avid gardener and was always ready for a good laugh. She knew how to make anyone's day brighter and was always ready for a good time just by being Jody. She loved her family fiercely, and she will be greatly missed. In the end, it was not the cancer that won, but faith, grace, and love.

In addition to her parents, Jody was predeceased by her loving husband, Harry Blume and a sister, Jan Richardson.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harry Albert Blume, Jr. and Autumn Blume, grandson, Harry Albert Blume, III, her sister, Jean Taylor and family, her brother, John Wallace and family.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024, in the sanctuary of Mullins First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

If you would like to remember Jody, the family suggests that donations be made in her memory to Mullins First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 443, Mullins, South Carolina, 29574 or to the Order of the Eastern Star Palmetto Chapter #2, 4210 Double Loop, Mullins, South Carolina 29574.
