John William Arthur Anderson, 64, of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Charleston, the son of William Durham Anderson and the late Valerie Anderson Sowell. He had worked as an electrician with Daniels Construction. Johnny had a heart of gold and loved to do for others, which led him to become a Shriner. He also served in the National Guard.

He was predeceased by his mother, Valerie Anderson Sowell.

Johnny is survived by his father, William Durham (Pearl) Anderson of Nichols, his stepfather, Billy (Peggy) Sowell of Allendale; six half-brothers, Danny (Belinda Skipper) Anderson, Barry (Debbie) Anderson, Terry (Ann) Anderson, all of Nichols, Neil (Lisa) Sowell of Atlanta, Scottie (Teresa) Sowell and Stevie Sowell, both of Barnwell; four half-sisters, Sherry (Ronnie) Locklear of Whiteville, NC, Wanda Gunsallus of North Myrtle Beach, Cindy Sowell and Lisa Sowell both of Barnwell; two stepbrothers, Eddie (Teresa) Roberts and Kenneth (Camille Causey) Roberts, both of Conway, many nieces and nephews, and a longtime friend and caretaker, Billy (Nancy) Meeks of Charleston.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at Spring Branch Baptist Cemetery in Nichols directed by Meares Funeral Home of Mullins.
