Johnny
Wiggins
Sep 14, 1951 — Sep 20, 2023
Marion
Mr. John Alexander Wiggins, husband of Carlotta Johnson Wiggins, of Marion, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 24th at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Marion. Visitation will be held one hour before the service, from 2 to 3 p.m., in the fellowship hall of the church. The service will be live streamed on the First United Methodist Church of Marion South Carolina Facebook page.
Johnny was the first of the Wiggins triplets born September 14, 1951 in Florence, to the late Elly James Wiggins, Jr., and Christine Livingston Wiggins. He was a graduate of Marion High School and Wingate Junior College. Johnny had a long career in agriculture, farming for thirty years, working for Archer-Daniels-Midland Company for fifteen years, and retiring from Sparrow and Kennedy Tractor Company after twenty years. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Marion, singing in the Chancel Choir, teaching Sunday School, and serving on many committees.
Johnny was named the 1982 Young Tobacco Farmer of the Year by the Cooperative Extension Service of Clemson University and was a member of the 1983 Phillip Morris Leadership Development Program. He served as member and chairman of the Marion County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse from 1980 to 1986, on Marion County Council from 1989 to 1993 and on the Marion County Soil and Water Conservation Committee for twenty-two years, serving as chairman for several years. He was a long-time board member of Marion County Farm Bureau and a charter member of the Red Man River Club.
In his time-off and during his retirement, he enjoyed camping trips with his Happy Camper friends. His favorite activity was spending time at Fork Retch on the Little Pee Dee River with his family and friends and being Papa Johnny to all the river kids!
Surviving Johnny, in addition to his wife Carlotta, are three sons, Zan of Myrtle Beach, Gil and his wife Audrey of Mullins, and Rob and his wife Laura of Goose Creek; two grandsons, Miles and Stedman; one brother, Jim Wiggins (Peggy); three sisters, Wanda J. Collins (Ronnie), Cindy W. Herring (Ron), and Karen W. Beldyk (David); and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack D. Jones, Jr.
