Obituary

Joyce Floyd Taylor, 97, widow of Carlyle W. Taylor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at her home in Nichols with her family by her side. She was born in Marion County on January 21, 1926, the daughter of the late Hugh James Floyd and the late Martha Ann Strickland Floyd.

Mrs. Taylor will be remembered for how selfless she was. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put others first. Her strength and perseverance were instrumental in allowing her to see ninety-seven years, even after experiencing two floods in her hometown of Nichols. She loved her small town and was delighted to be able to spend her final years back in her home in Nichols. She will be remembered by others as a hard worker who along with her husband, Carlyle, owned and operated Dixie Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Mullins for fifty-two years. She never met a stranger and made many friends through her work at the cleaners. She was a member of Nichols United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Taylor was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Carlyle W. Taylor, a brother, Monroe Floyd, and three sisters, Carrie Nichols, Donnie Cribb, and Celia Mabry.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Taylor and Susan Causey (Alan) three grandchildren, Will Causey (Whitney Lewis), Stacey Causey (Craig Sanderson) and Stephanie Causey (Dobbin Townsend), all of Nichols, and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Causey.

The family will receive friends at the Taylor home in Nichols, 604 North Main Street, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 27, 2023. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols with Reverend John Wallace officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Riverside Care, 8431 Elvington Road, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.

The family would like to thank Dr. Carroll, Kathy Opinsky, Shana Richardson, and Farrah Hayes of Patriot Hospice and caregivers, Teresa Hewitt, Joyce Floyd, Wendy Ceo, and Arnetha Martin for the time, energy, and effort that each one devoted to Mrs. Taylor
