Obituary

Kathleen Hooks Battle, 96, of Nichols passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 with her family that adored her there with her.  She was born in Nichols, South Carolina on March 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Carlton Frantic Hooks and Edna Mattie Small Hooks.

Mrs. Kathleen was a true Southern lady of grace and charm who enjoyed visiting with her friends and family, playing bridge, and baking. She passed away loved by all.  A lifelong resident of Nichols, she loved the small town and the people there.  One of her favorite pastimes was coloring and many people were recipients of her coloring sheets, which she loved to share.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kathleen was predeceased by her stepfather, Chalmers Lewis Lawson, her beloved husband, Richard Franklin Battle, Sr., sons, Richard Franklin Battle, Jr. and Lewis Carlton Battle, an infant daughter, a sister, Edna Carl Hooks Moody and a daughter-in-law, Faye Hardwick Battle.

She is survived by a son, James Warren Battle of Athens, New York; a sister, Darca Hooks of Whiteville, North Carolina, two grandchildren, Franklin Lawson Battle of Nichols and Rebecca Page Battle of Mt. Pleasant, and a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Johnson Battle of Marion.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2020 in the sanctuary of Nichols United Methodist Church with Reverend Tim Burleson officiating.  The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the service.  We respectfully request that you wear a mask and practice social distancing while in the church.  The family will lay Mrs. Kathleen to rest in a private committal service earlier in the day.

If you would like to remember Mrs. Kathleen, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to Nichols United Methodist Church, 401 Main Street, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.
