Obituary

Keith Richard Stromberg, 59, of Clio, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2026, after courageously battling multiple sclerosis with a resilient spirit. He was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on June 30, 1967, the son of Eugene Emiel Stromberg and the late Ann Eleanor Hill Stromberg.

Keith lived a life defined by a quiet strength and deep commitment to helping others. He proudly worked in the Clio community as a paramedic. He loved being a first responder and for Keith, it was a true calling. He responded whenever he was needed with a steady hand and a reassuring presence for the patients. With the money he made as a paramedic, he was able to pay his way through college and graduated from Florence-Darlington Technical College with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. He worked with various hospital systems, repairing and maintaining life-sustaining medical equipment.

Outside of work, Keith spent countless hours working with wood. His specialty was making turkey and duck calls some of which won awards and led to the formation of his business, Flat Woods Game Calls. Many of his calls are still blown across the area by waterfowlers. He had a huge workshop in his yard, where he built 2-man fishing boats and wooden bowls. He shared his love of woodworking with his son Lane where they spent quality time together.

Keith also enjoyed sports. Through the years, he worked as an assistant tennis coach at Marlboro Academy, loved the South Carolina Gamecocks, and taking Mary Keith horseback riding and to horse shows. He had also served as an Assistant Troop Leader with the Boy Scouts in Bennettsville. Most of all, Keith loved his family. Following his marriage to Casey, he opened his heart and home to Gandy who he loved, raised, and cherished as his own, and eventually adopted. This was just another example of his character and the caring person he was. Though his MS diagnosis altered the pace of life, it never diminished his capacity to love and inspire others.

Keith is survived by daughters, Gandy McTaggart “Tag” Stromberg and Mary-Keith Kinard; a son, Alan Lane Stromberg; his brothers, Michael Eugene Stromberg and Scott Edward Stromberg; a sister, Debbie Ann Carpenter; two grandchildren, John Allan Kinard and Kendall “Kenny” Kinard, and his wife, Catherine Hunter “Casey” Stromberg and her son, Hunter Earnhardt.

The family will have a celebration of life for Keith at Fork Retch, the river he loved from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 1036 Fork Retch Court, Mullins, South Carolina 29574.

Keith was blessed to have his brother, Michael, lovingly care for him throughout his illness. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Michael for all that he did.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Keith’s memory to the National MS Society, P.O. Box 54879, Los Angeles, California 90054.
