Nichols
Lacie Adams Shelley, 96, of Nichols, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 8, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Horry County on March 26, 1922, a daughter of the late Thomas W. Adams and Eppie Adams Small. A Godly woman, Mrs. Shelley was a devoted member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where she served as the first and only female deacon and as a member of the WMU. Mission work was very close to her heart, and she hosted visiting foreign missionaries in her home over the years. A few of her favorite mission offerings were Lottie Moon, Annie Armstrong, and Connie Maxwell Children's Home. She loved gardening, cooking and canning the fruits and vegetables that were grown on the family farm. Her greatest love was for her family whether it was her personal family, church family, Council on Aging family, or her Horry Electric Co-op family. Mrs. Shelley was the first WIRE president from 1986-1988 for Horry Electric and in 2013, she was named Rural Lady of the Year for Horry Electric. She also loved giving back to her community by serving on the board for Horry County Council on Aging for many years.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by her beloved husband, James C. Shelley, Sr.; her son, Dr. Dewey Randall Shelley, an infant son, three brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Shelley is survived by two sons, Reverend James C. Shelley, Jr. (Doris), of Creedmoor, NC and Johnny M. Shelley (Sonnie) of Nichols; two sisters, Earlease Small Heath of Columbia and Peggy Small Williamson of Summerville; seven grandchildren, Dawn Lucas (Ken), Gay Jones (Dewey), Jay Shelley III (Terri), Lyndsey Dillard (Rob), Kristi Forbus (Brian), Cam Shelley (Jill), and Randy Shelley; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Shelley of Mt. Pleasant.
