Obituary

Wilbur Laverne Duncan, 74, of Nichols and formerly of Charleston, left us to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. He was born in Horry County on September 30, 1944, the son of the late Rochell and Irene Israel Duncan. Wilbur was a devoted Christian and attended Mullins First Baptist Church. As a member of the church, he participated in many Bible studies and church activities. Wilbur served his country for twenty-eight years as a journeyman at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retired in 2004 from Kingsbay Naval Base. He loved being outdoors, fishing, playing tennis, and bowling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends and serving God.

Wilbur was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by a brother, Franklin Duncan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Sheila McDaniel Duncan; two children, Marilyn D. James (Carl) of Charleston and Wayne Duncan (Staci) of Spokane, Washington, and six grandchildren, Izze, Dylan, Jacob, Tytan, Karma, and Arley.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Cedar Creek Cemetery with Reverend Robbie Baxley officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service and later at the Duncan home.

If you would like to remember Wilbur, the family suggests that memorials be made in his memory to the Cedar Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Tony McCrackin, 2601 Highway 430, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.
