Lonzo Israel, 92, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at McLeod Loris Hospital. He was born in Mullins, a son of the late Frank Ottis and Cornie Willoughby Israel. Mr. Israel believed in hard work and retired in 1995 from farming the land that he loved. He was a veteran of WWII having served with the 25 ^th Infantry Division. He saw combat in the Philippines and was later stationed in Japan. He was a Master of Floyds Grange and a Master Mason. Mr. Israel was a past member of the 36 Man Tobacco Committee and the Tobacco Association. An easy going man, he enjoyed people and making memories with his family

He was predeceased in addition to his parents, by his beloved wife, Madge Britt Israel; by a brother, Leo Israel; two sisters, Irene Israel and Esther Israel Heirs; one half brother, Don Israel, and a half sister, Jeannette Cannon.

Mr. Israel is survived by his son, Carl (Nancy) Israel of Nichols and a daughter, Janet Israel of Marion; three half brothers, J.E. (Carline) Israel, Bud (Bernie) Israel and Darrel (Jean) Israel; two half sisters, Edith Israel Worrles and Esther Israel Akers; three granddaughters, Jill Israel (Dave) Kolesar, Christy Israel Barnhill, and Jenny Israel (Chris) Hatcher; two great-granddaughters, Kaylee Hatcher and Kendal Barnhill, and three great-grandsons, Carson Hatcher, David Kolesar, and Jack Kolesar.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, 2018 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Nichols.
