Malcolm
Mccormick
Mar 15, 1929 — Mar 13, 2024
Nichols
Malcolm White McCormick, 94, of Nichols, and husband of Kathryn Alford McCormick, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at MUSC Health Marion Medical Center. He was born in Marion County on March 15, 1929, the son of the late Lawrence W. McCormick and the late Sarah McLean McCormick.
Malcolm was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served his country with dignity and honor. Following his discharge, he returned to Nichols with the love of his life, Kathryn Alford McCormick, and together they built a life that lasted for the next seventy-three years. He adored his wife and family, and he took the role as their protector very seriously.
Malcolm loved the Nichols community that he called home. He owned and operated the Western Auto there for many years. He also loved his church and church family at Nichols United Methodist Church. Following the flooding in Nichols, Malcolm worked tirelessly to help bring the church back, so that it could once again be used to hold Sunday services.
Malcolm loved to spend time working in his garden and tending his fig trees and grapevines, the fruits of which he graciously shared with others. He enjoyed tinkering on anything that could be tinkered on and could be described as a jack-of-all trades. Prior to his declining health, Malcolm enjoyed playing golf and fishing. In his early years, he also enjoyed playing baseball. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled; however, his legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Malcolm was predeceased by his son-in-law, James Strickland, a brother, Stephen McCormick, and two sisters, Louise Geiger and Sarah Ham.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn McCormick of Nichols; a son, Michael McCormick and his wife, Wanda of Charleston; his daughter, Nanette Strickland of Tabor City; four grandchildren, Christopher McCormick (Angela), Natalie Frenier (Blake), Colby Strickland (Jessica), and Blake McCormick (Kelsey); three great-grandchildren, Lance Strickland, Davis Strickland, and Kathryn Frenier; and a sister, Frances Harrelson of Columbia.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be at Red Hill Memorial Gardens.
If you would like to remember Malcolm, the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to Nichols United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 20, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.
