Martha E.
Gibson
Jul 25, 1932 — Jan 5, 2021
Mullins
Martha E. Gibson, 88, of Mullins passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at MUSC Marion with her daughter, Brenda by her side. She was born in Hampton County on July 25, 1932, the daughter of the late Joe Sauls and Lilly Clifton Sauls.
Martha loved flowers and working in her yard. She was very protective of her flowers, making sure they were not damaged by people or the weather. Prior to her husband Morris's death, the two of them enjoyed many days of freshwater fishing. She liked to watch television and especially enjoyed the soap operas and the challenge of a variety of puzzles. She also loved attending Mullins First Baptist Church and listening to gospel music. She is remembered as a woman with a strong will who deeply loved her daughter. She was dedicated to her son-in-law, Brian, as well and made sure there was a variety of snacks and some cold milk when he visited.
In addition to her parents, Martha was predeceased by her husband, Morris, a brother, Joe Sauls, and four sisters, Marian Bivens, Nell Hoover, Molly Brabham, and Helen Wooten.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Jackson and her husband, Brian of Hope Mills, North Carolina and a sister, Joanne Hess.
A funeral service for the family to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins with Reverend Robbie Baxley officiating. We respectfully request that you wear a mask and practice social distancing while in the funeral home. A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2021 at Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery in Hampton, South Carolina. Once again, we request the use of masks and social distancing while in the cemetery.
If you would like to remember Martha, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to Mullins First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 443, Mullins, South Carolina 29574.
The family would like to thank special friends, John, Pam, Crystal, and Zander Turner and Reba Hayes for the special care they gave Martha. Your compassion and support have been a blessing to my mother and to me.
