Elliott
Apr 7, 1939 — Apr 28, 2021
Mullins
Mary Alice Johnson Elliott, 82, of Mullins passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. She was surrounded by the family that she loved and that loved her. Mary Alice was born in Marion County on April 7, 1939, the daughter of the late Eston Thomas Johnson and the late Trollie Mae Martin Johnson.
A retired cosmetologist, Mary Alice spent many years working as a hairdresser in the area. She made many friends with her outgoing personality and through her work in the salon. Along with the gift of working with hair, she also enjoyed crocheting afghans. There are many people who were recipients of the beautiful afghans she made. Mary Alice was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and had served the church as a former pianist and youth choir director. She loved attending sporting events and watching them on television. Some of her other favorite pastimes were shagging and listening to beach music and gardening. She was known for being a good cook and enjoyed family gatherings where she would show off her cooking skills.
In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was predeceased by a brother, Waylon Johnson.
She is survived by her children, Billy Curtis Elliott of Mullins, Reida Elliott Huggins and her husband, Greg of Nichols, and Robin Elliott of Greenville; a sister, Lena Mae Hardwick of Galivants Ferry; three grandchildren, Ashley Huggins Harris (Nick), Gregory Coleman Huggins (Christian), both of Nichols and Jordan Grace Elliott of Greenville, and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Elliott Cemetery in Nichols with Reverend Moose Kenneth Herrington officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
If you would like to remember Mary Alice, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to the Elliott Cemetery Fund, c/o Terry Wayne Elliott, 151 Leaning Branch Loop, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.
