Mary
White
Jan 24, 1936 — Oct 8, 2021
Nichols
Mary Elizabeth Gore White, 85, loving wife of William Traywick White, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 8, 2021. Mrs. White was born in Conway on January 24, 1936 to the late William Edward Gore, Sr. and the late Beatrice Permenter Gore, but grew up in Wampee, South Carolina.
Mrs. White attended Wampee High School and was a graduate of Columbia College, where she met the love of her life to whom she was married for 65 years. She began her career as a librarian at Fort Jackson in Columbia. After moving to Mullins, she was employed as Children's Librarian by the Marion County Library System. She was well-loved by the area children and known for her wonderful storytelling ability. A lifelong avid reader, she enjoyed introducing others to the adventures found in books. Mrs. White was an active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities. Whether the brass needed polishing, or a meal for a crowd was needed, she always happily gave of herself. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteered as participant coordinator for Girl's State for many years. Her greatest blessing and focus in life was her family who enjoyed her endless adoration and gave her the same joy in return.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was predeceased by her sister, Geraldine Gore Cox, a brother, William Edward Gore, Jr, and a nephew, Allen Scott Jordan.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of the home, a son and daughter-in-law, Will and Beth White of Mullins; a daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Lee Baxley of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren, Lance White (Ashley) of Nichols, Kristine White Stuckey (Scott) of Charleston, Ashlyn Baxley Gober (Charles) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Taylor Baxley (James) of Athens, Georgia, Laurel Baxley of Auburn, Alabama, Sara Cameron of Galivants Ferry and William Cameron of Mullins, and great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Elena, Eloise, Harper, Sawyer, and Wilder.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 10, 2021 in the sanctuary of Macedonia United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 4:00 p.m., Sunday in the sanctuary of the church with Reverend Brian Preveaux and Reverend Kem Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Cedardale Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the Macedonia United Methodist Church Facebook page.
