Obituary

Maxie Wayne Elliott, 73, of Nichols, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 3, 2025, with his beloved wife of almost 55 years by his side. He was born in Mullins on November 14, 1951, the son of the late Matthew James Elliott and the late Fleetwood Jackson Elliott.

The perfect day for Maxie was riding one of his horses or hunting with his dogs. He competed in many horse shows and showed many of his dogs through the years. He was awarded numerous trophies because of his skill and dedication to his animals. His love for the outdoors also included hunting. He spent countless hours in the woods around Horry County, accompanied by family and friends and at least one of his beloved hunting dogs. His dedication to his animals was only outweighed by his love for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Maxie was well-known for his skilled carpentry work. He could be found building and repairing homes throughout the community. Maxie lived a life of strength and resilience and never complained even as his health declined. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Maxie is survived by his wife, Connie Elliott; a son, Anthony Elliott and his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Kimberly Stetson; seven grandchildren, Kevin Gasque, Amber Stetson, Peyton Stetson, Emily Stetson, Ali Elliott, Tillman Elliott, and Adam Stetson, a great-grandchild, Kaseom Gasque, and a loyal friend and right-hand man, Jesse Brown.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2025, in the sanctuary of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Nichols. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

If you would like to remember Maxie, the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1950 Mt. Olive Church Road, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.
