Michael Wayne
Harrelson
Apr 14, 1959 — Jul 2, 2024
North Myrtle Beach
Michael Wayne Harrelson, 65, a proud resident of the Windy Hill section of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and formerly of Mullins, SC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Grand Strand Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Columbia, SC on April 14, 1959, the son of Carol Munson Harrelson and the late Marilyn Brown Harrelson.
Mike graduated from Mullins High School and shortly thereafter moved to the beach to pursue business interests with his family. He along with his parents and brother, Scott, opened Thoroughbreds Restaurant, a highly successful restaurant in Myrtle Beach. Mike loved the food industry and partnered with his brother in other restaurant ventures along the Grand Strand.
Mike was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather, and a true friend to many, who loved doing for others. He often participated in motorcycle runs and boats runs to raise money for charity. He loved to hunt, fish, and ride motorcycles. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mike really enjoyed riding around the neighborhood on his golf cart visiting friends at local restaurants in Windy Hill. Mike loved his family and friends dearly, including Jayne Workman, Orlando Watson, and Sharon McCord. Undoubtably, the apple of his eye was his 11-month-old granddaughter, Savannah Lynn Sessions.
Mike is survived by his father, Carol Harrelson of Mullins; his son, Devon Harrelson of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Andrea Harrelson of Myrtle Beach and Carly Harrelson Sessions (Clayton) of Conway; granddaughter, Savannah Lynn Sessions; brother, Scott Harrelson (Hugh Gaskin) of Charleston; sister, Susan Harrelson Tapp (Parker) of Mullins; a niece, Kelly Tapp McColl (Tally); his former wife and best friend, Stacey Southard Harrelson, and Melanie Gasque Graves.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2024, in the sanctuary of Mullins Presbyterian Church with Reverend Jason Brewer officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service.
If you would like to remember Mike, donations may be made in his memory to the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, 409 Bay Street, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582. (843) 249-4948.
