Obituary

Michael Rowell, 73, of Columbia and formerly of Nichols, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center while surrounded by his family. He was born in Marion County on April 2, 1952, the son of the late William Roland Rowell and the late Miriam Causey Rowell.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and gardening. He leaves behind a legacy of patience, which he gained through these pastimes. He had many cherished memories on the water and quiet times on the riverbank. He also found peace working in his garden. It was another testament to his love of the outdoors. A lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, he rarely missed a race. Whether it was from the stands or from his favorite chair, he enjoyed the thrill of a good race. As an avid Gamecocks fan, he enjoyed watching all their games. Michael married his beloved wife, Sheila, and together they built a life filled with love and lasting memories over their 54 years of marriage. He enjoyed time spent with his family, and he will be missed more than words can say.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by brothers, Kenny Rowell and Mitchell Rowell.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila Cox Rowell; a son, Shaun Rowell; daughter, Tanya Rowell; a grandson, Tyler Rowell; sister-in-law, Judy Rowell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins.
