Nancy Barringer
Williams
Aug 2, 1948 — Jun 20, 2024
Mullins
Nancy Ileita Barringer Williams, 75, of Mullins passed away at her home on Thursday, June 20, 2024. She was born on August 2, 1948, the daughter of the late Martin C. Barringer and the late Ileita Caldwell Barringer.
Nancy was born and raised in Mullins and graduated from Mullins High School in the Class of 1966. She attended Brenau College, received her education degree, and began a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. Through the years, she taught in Columbia and Elloree, before returning to her hometown and finishing her teaching career in the Marion County School District. She inspired and instilled a love of learning in the many students who passed through the doors of her classroom. It was during this time that Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Ted, and together they worked and raised their children in the Mullins community.
Upon her father's retirement in 1986, Nancy transitioned to the family business, Barringer's Jewelers, the oldest family owned and operated retailer still on Main Street. She continued to operate the family business until her passing. Her gentle spirit and warm smile will be missed by her family, friends, and customers. Her contributions to the community were numerous as she was the first female to serve on the Board of Anchor Bank, a former member of the Mullins Rotary Club, and a former member of the Board of the Mullins Chamber of Commerce. She was an active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where she served on various committees through the years.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing bridge, spending time at the beach, and traveling with her brother, Buddy and his wife, Mary Jane. She was an avid Gamecock fan, enjoyed attending the games, and has been a Gamecock Club Member since 1982. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed following her grandsons' sports and activities, which she rarely missed.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Ted Williams.
She is survived by a son, Ray Williams and his wife, Sallie; her daughter, Laura W. Tanner; a brother, Martin C. "Buddy" Barringer and his wife, Mary Jane; her grandsons, Cade Columbus Tanner and Cully Ray Tanner; nieces, Kelley Barringer-Krablin and Kimberly B. Fields (Larry) and great-nieces, Kaylee Grace Krablin and Josie B. Krablin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2024, in the sanctuary of Macedonia Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the narthex of the church following the service. The family will lay their mother to rest in a committal service at Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins.
