Obituary

Mullins-

Olga Petros Kirby, 87, of Mullins passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. She was born in Mullins, the daughter of the late Mike and Anastasia Petros. Mrs. Kirby touched many lives through the years as she shared her love of cooking with others. She worked tirelessly as a cafeteria manger at Mullins High School, greeting the students with a smile and making sure that they were well-fed. The joy she found in cooking and doing for others was also seen in her personal life, as she would often share her delicious goodies with her many friends in the community. She supported our country's veterans as a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Her greatest joy; however, was found in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, John M. Kirby, Sr., two sons, Dr. John M. Kirby, Jr. and his wife, Vickie, and Paul R. Kirby all of Mullins; a daughter, Barbara Ann Hawkins of Hamer; two sisters, Tula Carroll of Myrtle Beach and Evelyn Petros of Mullins, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

If you would like to remember Mrs. Kirby, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street, Mullins, South Carolina 29574 or to McLeod Hospice House, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, South Carolina 29502.
