Obituary

Opal Hooks Fax, beloved wife of the late Vinston Fax, went to be with the Lord at her home in Nichols, SC on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Born on July 27, 1924 to the late Ellen Page Hooks and Jesse Hooks, she was the oldest of their five children. She was 94.

Mrs. Fax was a kind, compassionate lady who loved her Lord, her family, and her friends. A lifelong member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, she enjoyed serving in many capacities. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for more than 65 years. Singing in the choir and being involved in any mission activities brought her great joy. Bible study and prayer were important parts of her everyday life.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fax was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years; two brothers, A.Q. Hooks and Dr. Franklin Hooks, and her grandson, Jamie Brogdon.

She is survived by her only child, Beverly Fax Brogdon and her husband, Sam, with whom she made her home; her devoted companion and friend, Mary Gerald (James); two sisters, Ophelia Duncan and Patsy Floyd (Luther); a sister-in-law, Derotha Hooks; two granddaughters, Beth Young (Billy Joe) and Denise Brogdon; three precious great-grandchildren, Storie and Kade Brogdon and Hannah Young; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved furbaby, Ralphie.

The family will receive friends at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Annex at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 30 th . A worship service to celebrate Mrs. Fax's life will follow in the church at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Cyril Norris, Rev. Stephen Vipperman, and Rev. Mike Vipperman will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to thank everyone who provided medical assistance for Mrs. Fax during her declining health. We especially thank Dr. Chuck Mills and his staff, Coastal Cancer Center, and McLeod Hospice for the loving, compassionate care that they always gave to her and her family.
