Ophelia Hooks Duncan, 91, a lady of small stature with a big heart, of Nichols passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 30, 2021. Ophelia was born in Horry County on August 3, 1930, the daughter of the late Jesse Hooks and the late Ellen Page Hooks.

Mrs. Ophelia lived her life in full expression of the Proverbs 31 woman. She kept her eyes on Christ throughout her journey in life and served him in so many ways including with her music and caring for others. One of the oldest and dearest members of the Cedar Creek Community, she was a faithful member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and later Wannamaker Baptist Church. In her early life, Mrs. Ophelia worked with Carl Mauney Insurance Agency in Nichols, as well as being a bookkeeper at Old Brick Warehouse for many years. She also operated her own tax service business until her health no longer allowed her to do so.

In addition to her parents, Ophelia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dan, a son, Larry William Duncan, two brothers, A.Q. Hooks (Mary Ellen) and Franklin Hooks, a sister, Opal Fax, and a brother-in-law, Luther H. Floyd.

She is survived by her sister, Patsy Hooks Floyd of Florence; two grandsons, Daniel Duane Duncan and Gregory Allen Duncan, both of Nichols; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Danielle Duncan and Gregory Alexander Duncan; a sister-in-law, Derotha Hooks of Conyers, Georgia; several nieces and nephews, and her caregiver, Debbie Duncan.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2021 in the sanctuary of Wannamaker Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. We respectfully request that masks be worn while in the presence of others.
