Little River

Obituary

Patricia Lane Spivey, 76 years young, of Little River and formerly of Mullins, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025. She was born in Marion County, the daughter of the late John B. Herring and the late Mary M. Cox Herring.

Patricia or "Pat" as everyone knew her was surrounded by family and friends at McLeod Hospice House, when she left this world and entered into the arms of our Lord. She taught her family to love deeply, forgive quickly, and trust God is near in our hardest moments. We have the honor of calling her mom, Mema, grandma, mother-in-law, sister, and friend. She always wanted to help others if she was able. Her heart and home were always open to people. She always loved to cook and did it with love.

Pat worked at Mullins Hospital before moving to the Little River area. After settling there, she began working at Loris Hospital. When Seacoast Medical Center was completed, she transferred to that location and remained there until her health no longer allowed her to work. She was one of the original employees and was with them through the opening of the new hospital. Between her time with Loris Hospital and McLeod Seacoast, she worked approximately 31 years in the McLeod Hospital System and loved her job.  She was a hard worker and along with her employment at the hospital, she also worked at the Kangaroo Station and cleaned several offices on the side.  Everyone that came into the store daily called her Ma Pat. She loved connecting with her customers and making new friends.

She loved to tell others how proud she was of her kids and grandkids. She had a love for birds of all kind and butterflies, especially yellow ones.  Her mornings were always filled with reading her Bible and having her quiet time with the Lord.

Patricia was predeceased in addition to her parents, by her husband Marshall, two brothers, Jimmy W. Herring and William J. Herring, and six sisters, Carlee Klosterman, Bobbie J. Jackson, Willaree Lupo, Betty Jo Avant, Christine Haynes, and Dianna Cooper.

She is survived by a daughter and a son, Lisa (Allen) Thompkins of Little River, SC and Mark (Michelle) Lane of Marion SC; and four grandkids she loved with all her heart, Johnathan Lane of the home, Reed (Evanne) Lane, Marshal Lane, and Matthew (Christi) Lane of Marion along with the first great-grandbaby, Jacob Asher Lane.  She is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth (Don) Kronenwetter of North Myrtle Beach, Sandra H. Cook of Mullins, and her brother, Franklin D. Herring of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She also had two fur babies Chewy (of the home) which was her partner in crime, and Ollie (her daughter's dog) which was the one that loved to give her kisses all the time.

The family will receive friends at her daughter's home from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2025, at 203 Captains Drive in Little River, South Carolina. In addition, the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2025, at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. A service of celebration will follow the visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
