Rachel
Turbeville
Apr 5, 1940 — Sep 26, 2025
Nichols
Rachel "Rae" Elizabeth Mannion Turbeville, 85, of Nichols passed away peacefully at her home and entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 26, 2025, while surrounded by her family. She was born in Barrhead, Glasgow, Scotland on April 5, 1940, the daughter of the late Joseph Mannion and Ann Orr Mannion.
Rae met her husband, "Pug", in California while he was serving in the United States Navy. They married and made their home in Nichols, South Carolina, where they raised a family that was Rae's greatest joy. They were married for fifty-five years until Pug's passing in 2015.
Rae was a devoted and loving wife, mother and GiGi whose heart was always centered on her family, near and far. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the company of family and friends. She poured her love into every meal at her table, every holiday gathering, and every quiet moment of encouragement and care. Her passion for crafting, especially crocheting, became another expression of her love, with each creation carrying a prayer in every stitch. Her gifts warmed not only her loved ones but also many friends and strangers, extending her kindness far beyond her family.
Rae had a gift for making others feel at home. Her house was a place of welcome, with an open door, a seat at the table or a comfy bed always ready. She never faced an issue that a "good cuppa tea couldna fix."
Rae's life was anchored in prayer and trust in God. She was a faithful and devout Catholic and a member of the Catholic Church of the Resurrection. Rae embodied the qualities of a Proverbs woman. Her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on through her children, grandchildren, siblings, and all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.
She is survived by her children, Andy Turbeville (Julie) of Pompano Beach, Florida, JoJo Turbeville of Nichols, and Karen Turbeville Buffkin (Joey) of Nichols; four grandchildren, Zack Buffkin, Zoe Crosland (George), Cole Turbeville, and Caroline Turbeville, siblings, Mary Muller, Joe Mannion, Ann Cuthbert, Helen Mannion, Eddie Mannion, Jackie Lynch, Grace Christie and John Mannion, and many nieces, nephews and family members, both related by blood and chosen.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Larry "Pug" Turbeville, Rae was predeceased by five sisters, Margaret, Rose, Jessie, Belle and Martha.
A Rosary and visitation with family and friends will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Catholic Church of the Resurrection, 204 Heritage Road in Loris, South Carolina. A funeral mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Rae's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at http://events.stjude.org/Rachel_Turbeville , or to the Wounded Warriors Project, https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/ or simply any charity of your choice.
