Lee Ray Rowell, 58, of Nichols, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at McLeod Loris Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Columbus County, North Carolina on January 25, 1965, the son of Shelby Hammond Rowell and the late Leroy "Dick" Rowell.

Ray was one of the most kindhearted people you would ever want to meet. He enjoyed doing for others and could often be found helping people in their yard. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always making people laugh. Ray enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and considered Dale Earnhardt his favorite driver of all time. He loved anything to do with trucks, and he loved the South Carolina Gamecocks. A loving son and brother, he will be forever missed by his family.

In addition to his father, Ray was predeceased by a nephew, James Ford.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Shelby Rowell; brothers, T.L. Rowell (Michele) and Houston Rowell, all of Nichols; sisters, Susie Watts (David) of Loris, Nancy Stanley (Larry) of Mollie, North Carolina, and Gail Ford of Nichols; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind his fur baby, a chihuahua named Monkey.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols
