Obituary

Ronald Ethell Elliott, 71, of Nichols passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Grand Strand Medical Center. He was born in Mullins, South Carolina on July 31, 1949, the son of the late Allen Ethell Elliott and the late Eunice Williamson Elliott.

Ronnie followed in the footsteps of his father and was a farmer at heart. He also spent over thirty years in law enforcement, having worked with both the Horry County Police Department and the Horry County Sheriff's Department. He was a loving father and grandfather, not only to his children and grandchildren, but was like a father figure to many of the officers that he worked with through the years. Even as his children got older, he would call them on their birthday and sing to them and visit their homes on Christmas morning to see what Santa had brought. In his spare time, Ronnie enjoyed racking horses, fox hunting with his friends and raising hunting dogs. After his retirement, he also enjoyed spending time with his law enforcement friends and family,

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ellen Elliott of Nichols; three sons, Scott, Mark, and Toby Elliott, all of Nichols; a daughter, Amy Elliott Strickland (Todd) of Nichols; three sisters, Devonna Todd (Layne) of Dillon, Cherry Willoughby (Wayne) of Nichols, and Angie Cranford (Jody) of Nichols, and six grandchildren, Morgan Anthony (Curtis), Jacob Green, Ryan Elliott, Blair Elliott, Hugh Strickland, and Mary Kate Strickland.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2020 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Nichols with Reverend Maxie Hardee and Reverend Dale Willoughby officiating.  Burial will be at Elliott Cemetery. We respectfully request that you wear a mask and practice social distancing while in the presence of others.
