Mullins- Rupert W. Smith, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at McLeod Hospice House with his wife and son by his side. He was born in Marion County, the son of the late Rupert W. Smith, Sr. and the late Montague McRae Smith. Rupert loved and lived for his family. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Helen H. Smith; his son, Rupert W. Smitty Smith, III, a sister-in-law, Grace H. Grice, and a special friend, Brenda Housand, all of Mullins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2013 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. A service to celebrate Ruperts life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home immediately following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 181 E.
