Shirley
Harris
Mar 1, 1934 — Sep 23, 2022
Mullins
Shirley Taylor Harris, 88, of Mullins passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2022 at MUSC Health Mullins Nursing Center. She was born in Marion County on March 1, 1934, the daughter of the late Charles Edward Taylor and the late Clydie Sellers Taylor.
Shirley was a graduate of Mullins High School and attended Columbia College. She was honored to be a part of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and enjoyed learning and working with others to help preserve history.
Shirley used her God-given talent and servant's heart to positively impact others, whether it was through her sewing or baking. Through the years she alone made close to five hundred outfits for the children at Epworth Children's Home and later at Pee Dee Coalition. Her passion for sewing gave her many happy hours and helped to empower many young people who came through these organizations. Shirley put her whole heart into everything she did, paying attention to every detail of her sewing and cooking. Her white chocolate pies and cheese straws had to be perfect.
Shirley was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church where she served on several committees and especially enjoyed the fellowship with the Silver Service. Prior to her declining health, she also enjoyed playing bridge.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her sister, Jean Claire English.
She is survived by her sons, Carl R. Harris of Mooresville, North Carolina and Ric Harris (Paula) of Rockford, Illinois; three grandchildren, Richard Harris, Daniel Harris, and Tayler Harris-Rigsby (Sean), and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2022 in the sanctuary of Macedonia United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the service. The family will lay their mother to rest in a private committal service at Red Hill Memorial Gardens.
