Shirley Gleason
Lewis
Mar 20, 1938 — Jul 2, 2022
Florence
Shirley Gleason Lewis, 84, of Florence peacefully entered eternal life at Benton House on Saturday, July 2, 2022. She was born in Dillon County on March 20, 1938, the daughter of the late William Chile Gleason and the late Nannie Isla Lane Gleason.
One of Shirley's missions in life was to improve the lives of others, and she did this for many years working with Community Long Term Care, where she assisted individuals in receiving care while still living in their homes. Being a mother was another important part of her life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. Family came first and it was a value she instilled in others. A kind, caring and giving person, Shirley always put the needs of others before her own, and exemplified this through the care she provided for her own mother and sister-in-law as well as others in her church and community. She along with her late husband enjoyed traveling, but it was always home that was most important to her. Prior to her declining health, she was a faithful member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Florence, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a source of inspiration to her family and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sherrill Sloan Lewis, a daughter, Judy Moody, four brothers, Frank, Randall, Earl, and Rhett Gleason, and a sister, Pauline Allison.
She is survived by her daughters, Allison Smith and her husband, Everette and Amy Lewis and her husband, Byron, all of Florence; a beloved sister, Winnie Waller of Johns Creek, Georgia; her son-in-law, Robert Moody of Ruby; a brother-in-law, Gene L. Lewis of Charleston, two sisters-in-law, Frances Gleason of Darlington and Anne Gleason of Fork; seven grandchildren, Robyn Kilgore, Nick Moody, John Moody, Taylor Davis, Ariel Davis, Gwen Navey and Caleb Schnee; two great-grandchildren, Amelia Kilgore and Adalynn Kilgore; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022 in the sanctuary of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Florence. The funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Choir Fund of Pisgah United Methodist Church, 621 Ebenezer Road, Florence, South Carolina 29501.
The family would like to thank the staff of Benton House for the skilled and compassionate care provided for their loved one. You made the last year of her life happy and for that they are so grateful.
