Tanya
Tucker
Jun 9, 1939 — Oct 12, 2026
Mullins
Tanya Brogdon Tucker, 87, of Mullins, passed away peacefully Monday, October 12, 2026, at MUSC Medical Center in Charleston following a sudden illness. She was born in Fork, South Carolina on June 9, 1939, the daughter of the late W.B. “Bill” Brogdon and the late Azalee Johnson Brogdon.
As one of nine children, Tanya learned the value of hard work at an early age. She could often be found with an apron tied around her waist working in the family restaurant, Bill’s Cafe. At that time, the cafe was located on Main Street in Mullins. It was there that she met, J.D. Tucker, the love of her life. The early lessons in life stayed with her in her later years. Following her marriage to J.D., Tanya worked side-by-side with him building and running their business, Tucker’s Men’s Shop. As the seamstress there, she made sure every garment fit perfectly. Her dedication and warm personality were the cornerstone of both the business and her family.
Beyond her years of working, Tanya was also the quiet hero of Mullins. She, along with her sons, could be seen walking with bag and grabber in hand, leaving every path a little better than they found it. She adored her family and cherished the time spent with them. Her younger years working at the restaurant left a love of cooking with her, which with three growing sons, and now two grandsons, served her well. She found peace and happiness working in her yard and completing crossword puzzles. She was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church. Tanya lived quietly, loved deeply, and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Tanya was predeceased by her beloved husband, J.D. Tucker, a brother, W.B. “Butch” Brogdon, and two sisters, Doreen Brogdon Shirah and Judy Brogdon Garris.
She is survived by her sons, Keith Tucker and his wife, Cherie, Kevin Tucker and Kent Tucker; grandsons, Ridge and Rivers Tucker; two brothers, Kirkland Brogdon (Charm) and David Brogdon (Janice); three sisters, Barbara Brogdon Sawyer, Jean Brogdon Helms (Colin), and Diane Brogdon Price; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Brogdon, and a brother-in-law, Cary Garris.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2026, at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. It was her request for her boys to lay her to rest at Hopewell Cemetery in Fork.
In lieu of flowers, you may honor her memory by taking a walk in your own neighborhood and picking up a piece of trash or by donating to a charity of your choice.
