Obituary

Thomas David Crowell, Sr., 81, of Mullins was welcomed into his eternal home on January 27, 2021. He passed away at his home with his beloved wife of almost sixty years and his family by his side. He was born in Grove City, Pennsylvania on October 31, 1939, the son of the late Joseph Willis Crowell and Helen Burrowes Crowell.

A gentle and kind man, Tom served others humbly, generously, and graciously. His love for God and his fellow man shone through him his entire life. At the age of 14, he began what would become his profession for the next fifty years as a firefighter in Virginia. Around ten years ago, Tom and his wife, Sally moved to Mullins where they joined Macedonia United Methodist Church. Tom served in many capacities as a member at Macedonia, including running the sound system for Sunday church services. He was very active as a leader with Boy Scout Troop #748. One of his favorite things was the front yard of the home Sally and he purchased after moving to Mullins. It is only fitting that the service to celebrate his life be held in that very yard that he loved so much.

In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by a son, Walter Hunt Crowell, a brother, Robert Willis Crowell, and a grandchild.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sally B. Crowell of Mullins; a daughter, Kathryn C. Chandler and her husband, Jack of Richmond, Virginia; a son, Thomas D. Crowell II of Richmond; his sister, Augusta Kate Crowell-Myrick of Richmond; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A service to honor Tom's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at his home in Mullins. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in order to protect Sally and the rest of the family, there will be limited attendance at the service.

If you would like to remember Tom, the family suggests that memorials be made in his memory to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 402 North Main Street, Mullins, South Carolina 29574 or to Boy Scout Troop #748 at the same address.

An online guestbook is available at www.mearesfh.com .
