Van
Mcmillan
Dec 9, 1949 — Aug 15, 2016
William Vandyke "Van" McMillan, Jr., 66, of Mullins, passed away Monday, August 15, 2016 at McLeod Hospice House with his loving family by his side. He was born in Mullins, the son of the late William Vandyke McMillan and Martha Gibson McMillan.
Van graduated from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the 1969 ACC Championship Gamecock football team. As a formidable young man and a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Van earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout. A lifelong and active member of the Mullins Presbyterian Church, he was recently designated as Elder Emeritus for his many years of faithful and loving service to his Lord and Savior and the church. Van touched many lives serving as a pharmacist in the Mullins community. He loved his family, shagging with his beloved, Anita, beach and gospel music, playing softball with his church team, farm life, and had a sense of humor that not even cancer could cripple.
He was predeceased by his father, William Vandyke McMillan and his first wife, Donna Jean Leaphart McMillan.
Van is survived by his mother, Martha Gibson McMillan "Mama Mac" of Mullins; his devoted wife of thirty-five years, Anita Leigh Reeves McMillan of Mullins; three sons, William Vandyke "Buster" (Kirsten) McMillan III of Columbia, James Reeves "Jamie" (Jill) McMillan of Murrells Inlet, and Alexander Leigh McMillan of Columbia; three brothers, Samuel Davis "Sam" (Jill) McMillan, Franklin Gibson "Gib" (Mary Ellen) McMillan, and George Reaves (Cindy) McMillan all of Mullins; two grandchildren, Graceanne Jennings McMillan and William Vandyke "Liam" McMillan IV; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2016 at Mullins Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at McMillan Cemetery.
