Virginia
Strickland
Sep 30, 1922 — Feb 18, 2021
Nichols
Virginia Watts Strickland, 98, of Mt. Olive passed away peacefully at MUSC Marion Medical Center on Thursday, February 18, 2021. She was born on September 30, 1922, the daughter of the late Numer Watts and Fronnie Ransom Watts.
Gin was loved and admired by all who knew her. Her time was well spent by always serving others. Family and friends were her prized possessions, and her home had an open door welcoming everyone.
She loved to attend church and school functions, athletic events, dance recitals and any other activities in which her children and grands were involved. They brought her great joy, and she was always so proud of them. She enjoyed quilting, working in her garden, and growing a variety of flowers in her yard.
Gin lived a long successful life which no doubt was made better by being surrounded by her loving family. She would say her greatest achievement was her family; sons, Jerry Strickland (Pam) of Little River and a deceased son, Jimmy Strickland (Sandra); daughters, Bebe Harrelson (Rudy) and Cynthia Elliott (Terry) both of Nichols; ten grandchildren, Jay Strickland (Kelly), Shannon Hornsby (Roger), Jamie Strickland (Tabitha), Holly Keane (Jesse), Chase Strickland (Brooklyn), Stan Harrelson (Sheila), Brett Harrelson, Rhett Harrelson, Jason Elliott (Shawn), and Joey Elliott (Leslie), nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, A.G. Strickland; three brothers, Wilford, James, and Eugene Watts and three sisters, Franky Huggins, Clara Bell Herring, and Betty Ford.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols with Reverend Stephen Vipperman officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. We respectfully request that you wear a mask and practice social distancing while in the presence of others at the cemetery.
